Shared Harvest Kala Jeera / Kalonji / Black Cumin / Nigella Sativa / Black Caraway
Product Details
Shared Harvest Kala Jeera / Black onion seeds/kalonji are tiny, tear-drop shaped seeds of a small herb plant. Their dusty, jet-black colour and earthy, distinct onion flavour is an essential part to Panch Poran, a Bengali spice mixture.
They have a slightly pungent and bitter taste. It tastes like a combination of oregano and black pepper. Its crunchy texture is sprinkled over soft tandoor-baked breads, such as naan, as is done in Northern India.
Nevertheless, it is used as a spice in India, Pakistan, and Middle Eastern cuisine.
